Fawaness…..Symbol of Celebration

Took me a while to control my surprise and excitement when we walked in for Iftar at the Hilton Doha’s Ramadan Tent named ‘Fawaness’. Set up in the Hilton’s ballroom, ‘Fawaness Ramadan Tent’ is set to delight and dazzle the guests.

‘Fawaness’ is a traditional Fanous lantern(s) are the symbol of celebration, especially in Egypt during the holy month of Ramadan. The theme follows through the tent, part of it is breath-taking view of the ceiling which looks like starlit sky and another constituent is the Arabic market theme which flows around the tent. Simply awesome ambiance.

We reached around 6:45pm and the tent was already buzzing. After the warm welcome our host gave us a little tour of the tent and explained the buffet, and directed us to the table.

The buffet spread was extensive with a broad assortment of local delights and a picks of western dishes. Live cooking displays, sushi and seafood counters, Turkish delight stations and Ouzi presentation are few to mention which looked scrumptious and delighted us even before we seated and started dinning.

The salads were fresh, we loved the baby shrimp glass noodle salad, which was toothsome with Asian flavors. Selection of Arabic hot and cold Mezzeh was mouth-watering.

For the mains I think Ouzi needs a special mention. I have seen big Ouzi dishes and displays, but not like one at ‘Fawaness’. I actually called it Hanging Ouzi, as a big pot was hanging under big tripod, which I thought was very unique and innovative way of food display. Not that it looked good, but it also tasted authentic and heavenly

I was so up to my neck trying various items, and when it got to desserts I almost chose the smaller items. Out of many items on my must try list one was Turkish delight, which was nutty, fruity and rich. To be fair, I have to visit back soon and embark on my dining experience in the reverse order.

Ramadan Tent(s) in Doha are all about being part of the festivity, culture and an experience. Being in Doha from over a few years and after experiencing various tents, I can confidently say that ‘Fawaness Ramadan Tent’ is set to provide its guests a truly unique Ramadan experience.
